Spearheaded by the Commission, Youth Court was re-implemented in three of Wichita’s high schools in 2007. That number increased to 7 in 2009. This extraordinary program gives students hands on experience in what takes place in a courtroom. Wichita lawyer and Crime Commission member David Rapp chairs the committee that coordinates the program with USD 259 and Wichita Young Lawyer’s Association. The Young Lawyers have made the Youth Court program one of their top projects and serve as advisors, teachers and mentors when called upon.
Youth Court and Crime Stoppers in Schools compliment each other. Many students are very active in both programs. The Crime Stoppers in the Schools program operates in all Middle and High schools in the county and have been instrumental in solving several high profile crimes committed in schools.
