On a very hot and humid Saturday morning in August, over 60 young League 42 players were treated to a rousing game of kickball with volunteers from the Wichita Police Department, Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office and the Wichita Fire Department. The Crime Commission partnered with League 42 in their new “Bats and Badges” program, an initiative to let kids get to know law enforcement and other first responders “up close”. The Crime Commission provided pizza and back-to-school backpacks with school supplies. It was an opportunity to share the “One Pill Can Kill” message. Thanks to the support of Koch Industries, the Crime Commission will be partnering with other youth organizations throughout the year to reinforce the drug education message.
